Wow this is amazing. I am new to this idea of electric cars, been doing some research and then stumbled on one of your videos for the white zombie and the project you have going. I am completely blown away. I am really curious in how all of this works. Is it really that much more expensive then tuning combustion engines?? I want an electric car and I want to teach people how it is possible. Can you show me the way of plasma boy and electricity? haha I know this all sounds pretty corny but Im only 20 and this looks like an amazing career!!!

hey - I was considering doing the same thing - rolling classroom - when I inherited a 30v 200a starter motor and happen to have a dead 89 Isuzu p'up in the garage. I know it will be slow and possibly will burn everything up, but I figured, better to learn on $1000 project than a $10k investment - right, maybe??

Anyway, I moved from the Portland/Vancouver area and the west side was killer for hills. We don't have much of that here in KY. I just want to find a way to plug in my truck and drive my 40+ miles to work, with one big hill (yes you go up - but you also come back down) right in the middle. Would you suggest that 30v 200a motor at all for a test build for that drive?

My brother also works for UPS up in Louisville and he told me that the jets he works on use 96kva starter motors. I was thinking maybe I would try and get my hands on one of those for my "cheap rolling classroom". Your thoughts?

Also, I see people going clutchless - I know you wouldn't use it as much, but wouldn't you still need it on a long hill or something?

Please let me know your response. I am so thankful there are guys like you putting out this kind of information. If I was still in Portland, I would be on your doorstep every weekend!
Thanks

I’ve heard that it was true at one time when they did not design a derbies well at the bottom of the battery. And the plates would sit right on top of the base.
Sounds plausible Thou I don’t know myself. I think the myth busters Idea might be good.

Oh I just read David Nelsons post and I’ve also heard that. Maybe a combination of the two factors.

Hi John, do you have any experience with the new Exide Mega-cycle batteries specifically the XMC-31. I'm considering building my first EV and thought this would be a good choice (14 XMC-31 total weight about 1000lbs). I can't find very detail specifications on it, but it appears to have about a 15% greater energy density than the 34XCD. It has twice the total energy (@25 amp drain) per battery and weighs about 1.8X as much. It appears to deliver more power per battery based on the MCA but less per unit mass. The mass of the battery is quoted in various places at 69lbs and 72lbs in others. Exide claim twice the cycle-life compared to other deep cycle batteries but I can't find any detailed information/numbers on this important claim. I have written to Exide and I'm still waiting their reply on this.
All the best. Phil.
ps I'm probably responsible for half the hits on your Bluemeanie page ;-)

I am looking for a (Kit )for a/c system like you have described. No one that I have found has a complete Kit. I would build the kit from parts but I am having trouble finding everything online. I wish someone would list ( 1-Whatever ) the componets needed complete. A wiring diagram. This could be used for any car. I know computerized cars have to be fooled so the electronics can be used and the steering will not lock up(among other things),but I am strictly after the meat and potatoes. Can anyone help? Thanks George from Virginia,USA ;)

Hey John,

Congrats... I'm very excited to see you still cranking the brushes on the White Zombie.

Let's connect in the coming weeks. I've recently launched an online media broadcast engine, and I'm looking for a few electric car "reality stories" to push into the most valuable places on the web.

Your stories are always world-class.

Let me know your thoughts.
